Dear New Year 7 student for 2020
Welcome to Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge – The first step on the journey
We are starting the journey of your transition to secondary school.
Once you have applied to attend our school and we receive our lists from Oxfordshire County council and we will contact you with some key dates and forms for you to complete. We will also start collecting lots of information from your primary school and arrange visits to meet you and your Year 6 teachers.
It is important to us that you feel confident and positive about your move to Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge and we provide a lot of opportunities which will enable you and your parents to get to know us better.
Visit to the Primary Schools
In the Summer Term of Year 6, our Transition Team will visit you in your primary school. We will listen to your teachers and hopefully get a chance to talk to you about what to expect.
Parent Induction Evening
Parents and carers are invited to join us for an evening. This is an opportunity for us to share what the you will do during your transition days and answer any pressing questions you or your parents might have. Your parents or carers will be able to meet your Head of Year and other key members of staff. Everyone will hear about how they can get involved in school life and how they can support you in your transition to secondary school.
Pre-Support induction Day
For those students who we identify as needing extra support in the transition visit, we will invite you onto an extra induction morning, so you can come and experience the school before getting to know the rest of your year group. This helps you get fully prepared for the big induction day.
Student Induction Day
By mid-May you will receive a further letter from us with details of the date of the Student Induction Day, when you will visit us here. This full day visit will give you an opportunity to experience a full day at secondary school together with meeting current students and talking to them about life at Maiden Erlegh Chiltern Edge.
The Transition process continues into Year 7. In September, you will join us on the first day earlier than all of the other pupils at the school. You will be met by your tutor and spend time with your new tutor group. Everyone worries about getting lost, but during the first few days we have plenty of helpers to ensure that you are pointed in the right direction and within a few days you won’t need a map anymore!
